Green Day – American Idiot
(2004)

Since 1990, Green Day was released many albums. One of their was American Idiot, the hit album. It was a reboost for the career of the band: in fact, it debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, the band's first album to reach number one, backed by the success of the album's first single, "American Idiot". The band is composed with:

- Billie Joe Armstrong – lead vocals, guitar, piano, harmonica (in the middle)
- Mike Dirnt – bass, vocals, guitar (in the left)
- Tré Cool – drums, percussion, backing vocals (to the right)

At the beginning (in 1986), the band's name was Sweet Children. In the 90's, the group dropped this name and adopted the name Green Day, due to their fondness for marijuana.

This song directs the american youthfulness who are against the medias and the political government which there is in 2004 by Bush. Jesus of Suburbia, the hero, doesn't understand his family, his country and their engagement in the war of Iraq.
Lonely, he divided between the rebellious and the despair. He leaves his family but, quickly, he fell in the decay, the sex, the alcohol and the lonelyness. With this, there is his meetup with St Jimmy, his double. In another words, St Jimmy is the Mr. Hyde of Jesus Of Suburbia. These two characters represent the youthfulness at that time. The young people see themselves in them and made it symbols of a whole generation.

American idiot lyrics.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind fuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along to the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Don't want to be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's calling out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

The song « American idiot » is on the fourth album by Green Day release in 2004. It talks about the media which corrupt the American nation. They don’t want a nation under the media and they rebel against this. For them, the television creates tensions in the country and they denounce lack of unity of people who argue. The media is a revolution but we use them badly. They think people who are doesn’t agree with ideas of the government should do the propaganda. The protagonist don't wanna be a ship, don't wanna be "an American idiot".

Fahrenheit 9/11 is a 2004 documentary film by American filmmaker Michael Moore. The film takes a critical look at the presidency of George W.Bush, the president from 2001 to 2009, their political choice and War choice like the Iraq war. The film received the Palme d'Or.

The movie begins by suggesting that friends and political allies of George W. Bush at Fox News Channel tilted the election of 2000 by prematurely declaring Bush the winner. It then suggests the handling of the voting controversy in Florida constituted election fraud. The film then segues into the September 11 attacks.
